Converting a single-family home into two independent duplex units required balancing privacy, functionality, and rental appeal. Each unit needed its own entrance, private outdoor space, and thoughtfully planned layouts that maximize livability. We designed one 2,000-square-foot side for the owners and mirrored the layout for rental tenants, maintaining consistent West Coast modern aesthetics throughout. The design prioritizes practical concerns: durable finishes, ample storage, sound insulation between units, and layouts that feel spacious despite shared-wall constraints. Clean lines, neutral palettes, and quality materials ensure both units appeal to a broad range of residents while standing up to daily wear.
